As we round up another successful year and head into 2023, we are proud to announce our recent charity partnerships with the National Literacy Trust, Smart Works and the Taylor Bennett Foundation. Having recently celebrated our 10th year in business, we are delighted to give something back and work alongside these inspirational charities.

To kick off a year that is set to be filled with events and fundraising for all three charities, members of our team visited the Erdington Academy in Birmingham with the National Literacy Trust for a letter-writing workshop with year 9 students.

The National Literacy Trust has collaborated with the University of Birmingham for its social bodies project, which involves academics studying a database of letters from 1680 to 1820. Professor Karen Harvey, the project lead, ran the workshop as part of her goal to include local Birmingham residents in the use of the amazing software they use to analyse the themes found in the letters.

With Whistle PR employees on hand to aid discussions, students worked in groups to understand the way the range of letters had been written. They were later given the opportunity to write their own letters, using old-style language and any new words they had learnt during the session. Students are encouraged to continue using the letter-writing skills they gained and will be exchanging letters with us in the near future.

Managing director at Whistle PR, Sarah Kent comments, “We highly value our charity partnerships at Whistle PR and we can’t wait to further develop our relationship with the National Literacy Trust.

“Working with the students at Erdington Academy was a brilliant experience and it was great to support a charity that is helping nationwide to transform lives through literacy”.

Also at the workshop was hub manager at the National Literacy Trust and Birmingham Stories, Kyle Turakhia who described the event and the ongoing engagement with the students as “really powerful”.

We’re very excited to be continuing this work with the National Literacy Trust and our two other charity partners Smart Works and the Taylor Bennett Foundation throughout 2023.
