Having been affected by the global pandemic, I found myself looking for a new role at the start of 2021. So, I signed up to the Government Kickstart Scheme, which enabled young people like myself to gain employment for up to six months. Then in May, I joined Whistle PR as their first ever Kickstarter.

After seeing the advert for Whistle PR, I was intrigued and applied straight away. A few days later, I was invited to a face-to-face interview. I was certainly nervous but confident I could turn heads with my skills and experience.

As soon as I stepped into the Fort Dunlop office, I felt the warmth and friendliness of the office. I sat down with managing director, Sarah, and business support manager, Claire, and chatted away about my experience and work history. I left feeling happy and like I had impressed, then a few days later Claire contacted me to say I’d been offered the role. I was thrilled and excited to start the next chapter of my life.

Now, six months on I reflect on my time as Whistle’s first Kickstarter. Working here has not only helped improve my skills but also helped me to become a better version of myself. The support and guidance I have received from the entire team is unrivalled and priceless, it has allowed me to create a vision of my goals and ideas in a different way, as well as motivate me to do better.

I have certainly gained a lot more experience than what I arrived with. I had limited knowledge of working in the sector and the team have done a great job of introducing me to the world of PR, as well as supplying me with the knowledge and tools to succeed.

Due to the structured training and development programme provided, no two days are the same. One day I’ll be working across the administrative side of the business and the next I could be helping with pitch research and drafting press releases.

One of the things I love most about working at Whistle, is that Sarah and the rest of the team have a fantastic relationship both in and outside of work which creates a free-flowing work environment.

I am so proud, as with my hard work and dedication, I have displayed a high level of professionalism and integrity to have had my contract extended at Whistle. Alongside this, the team have supported me in a big life decision to continue my education and go to university. I am so grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to see what the future holds.
