Birmingham communications consultancy Whistle PR has launched a dedicated service to meet a growing demand for businesses to be more transparent about their sustainability goals and performance.

ESG Communications (Environmental, Social and Governance) has been introduced to help companies to define, measure and communicate their impact on people and the planet.

The new offering comes amidst heightened climate change consciousness since COP26. Yet recent research carried out by the Whistle has revealed that only a third of businesses have a clear strategy in place to communicate their ESG commitments.

The new service is being led by account director Amy Ahmed-Dolphin as Whistle’s new Head of ESG Communications. She comments: “The ways in which businesses serve society and impact on the environment are firmly in the spotlight. Consumers expect more from the brands they engage with, and employees want to work for a company with a strong and meaningful purpose. It’s vital that companies develop sustainable development goals and have a clear roadmap to net zero that takes others on that journey with them.

“ESG comms is something we’ve been doing for a long time now in various guises, and the time felt right to introduce a dedicated service for our clients. Brands need to bring their story to life and engage with a whole host of both internal and external stakeholders in a clear and consistent way. And that’s where ESG Communications comes in.”

The new service from Whistle is tailored to each individual business, but typical areas of focus include a full sustainability audit, industry benchmarking, organisational purpose and goal setting, and the development and delivery of a robust ESG communications strategy.

Amy Ahmed-Dolphin continues: “When it comes to ESG, it is vital for businesses to communicate honestly and transparently. However, fear of greenwashing, or of not having all the solutions straight away, can lead many companies to communicate poorly, or say nothing at all. The important thing is that organisations start their sustainability journey and, as experts in communication, we can help them navigate the way.”
